Amazon expands Iceland grocery delivery to four new UK cities

This shift toward online delivery comes after the closure of 19 physical Amazon Fresh stores in the UK last year

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Amazon has expanded its grocery partnership with Iceland in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Nottingham, marking the first time the service is available in Northern Ireland.

The expansion provides customers in these cities with access to fresh food and household items. It forms part of a wider growth strategy involving existing partnerships with Morrisons and Co-op.

The retailer said it is on track to more than double the number of UK Prime members with access to three or more delivery options in 2026. This will reach more than 80% of members.

The move follows a £40bn investment over three years to modernise the company’s UK logistics network. This shift toward online delivery comes after the closure of 19 physical Amazon Fresh stores in the UK last year.

Shoppers currently access more than two million products through various channels including Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and Gopuff. This follows the recent launch of a 30-minute delivery service in London.

Director of amazon grocery partnerships Russell Jones said: “We’re continually working to give customers more choice, value and flexibility in how they shop for groceries. More customers across the UK can now choose from a wide range of Iceland groceries and household essentials, with a range of convenient, fast delivery options.”

Chief executive of Iceland Foods, Tarsem Dhaliwal, added: “This extension of our partnership with Amazon means that we can serve even more communities nationwide with Iceland’s quality products, all with the convenience of Amazon’s shopping experience. For Northern Ireland in particular, we’re proud to be the first grocery partner to offer a service like this through Amazon’s platform.”
