On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. Whole Foods Market has announced plans to open six new London stores by June 2026, doubling its UK portfolio to 12 locations following a period of expansion.

News comes after the retailer opened a 21,000 square foot site on King’s Road in March 2025, marking its first new British location in more than 10 years. The upcoming branches are situated in Angel, Liverpool Street, Notting Hill Gate, Wood Wharf, Monument and St James’s.

The Angel branch on Upper Street will open on 2 April 2026, followed by the Liverpool Street site on 23 April 2026. The Notting Hill Gate and Wood Wharf stores are scheduled to begin trading on 14 May 2026 and 28 May 2026 respectively.

Final openings are planned for Monument on 4 June 2026 and Victoria Street in St James’s on 11 June 2026. The stores will stock organic produce, animal-welfare certified meat and sustainable seafood alongside wellness and beauty departments.

Inventory will include exclusive products such as Vidrate electrolyte sachets and Walker Wodehouse lager. The speciality departments will focus on artisan cheesemakers and local producers, offering a range of beers, wines and spirits.

Jade Hoai, executive leader of operations for Whole Foods Market UK, said: “We are thrilled to bring Whole Foods Market to more neighbourhoods in London. We look forward to opening our doors to these wonderful communities, and to providing great customer service and an excellent product assortment that meets our high quality standards.”

Jason Buechel, chief executive of Whole Foods Market and vice president of Amazon’s worldwide grocery stores, added: “We’re happy to be expanding Whole Foods Market’s physical store presence in the U.K., allowing us to reach more customers with our uncompromising quality standards and carefully curated selection of natural and organic products.

“Each new store represents an opportunity to bring responsibly sourced, high-quality food to more communities who share our values of nourishing people and the planet.”
