The Co-op has shut down parts of its IT systems after hackers attempted unauthorised access, causing minor disruptions to call centres and back-office operations. Stores, funeral homes, and quick commerce services remain unaffected. The company assured customers no action is required but is monitoring the situation. This follows a recent cyber attack on M&S, which disrupted contactless payments and click-and-collect services over the Bank Holiday weekend. The Metropolitan Police is investigating the M&S breach, though any connection between the two incidents remains unclear.

Frasers Group is planning to relaunch Matches Fashion as an exclusive members’ club, akin to “the Soho House of retail.” Acquired for £19m last year, Matches was placed into administration weeks ago, with Frasers retaining the brand but not its stock or employees. The proposed revival includes a membership-based platform offering early product access, personalised shopping, and exclusive events, with a womenswear relaunch slated for 2026. However, some luxury brands remain unhappy as they are still owed money from Matches’ earlier collapse.

Puma is relocating its UK headquarters from London to Manchester, leasing 20,000 sq ft at Bruntwood SciTech’s £87m Circle Square development. The move aligns with Puma’s strategy to tap into Manchester’s tech and creative talent, while its first European flagship store opens on Oxford Street later this year.

Aldi has doubled its apprenticeship funding for small businesses, pledging £2m over the next two years, bringing its total commitment to £5.5m by 2027. The scheme has already supported nearly 100 SMEs, offering apprenticeships in sectors like healthcare and trades. Aldi also plans to hire 500 apprentices internally in 2025, emphasising the value of apprenticeships for both employers and job seekers.
