High street fashion retailer Peacocks is reportedly looking to expand to more than 20 locations in former M&Co stores, according to Drapers.
Peacocks is set to start trading in an old M&Co store in Stornoway, Scotland, in the coming months.
According to Drapers’ report, the retailer is also in advanced negotiations to open in the old M&Co premise in Saffron Walden in its pursuit to take over 20 stores from the estate.
The news comes as M&Co will finally be closing its remaining stores in 170 locations this weekend following AK Retail Holdings, which owns Yours Clothing, bought the brand and intellectual property of the collapsed retailer in February for an unknown amount.
However, Yours Clothing did not acquire the brick-and-mortar stores.
A property expert told Drapers: “Peacocks has made offers on a considerable number of stores. What it is doing is saying ‘where we are not and M&Co was, we know how well their trade was so we will take the better stores’.
“They will pick the better trading stores and also the better fitted stores so all they need to do is a very cheap makeover.”
Peacocks declined to comment to Drapers.
