Gymshark names Danielle Petesic as chief product officer

She will be responsible for the end-to-end product creation from design to delivery, including product engineering, product marketing, and supply chain strategy for Gymshark’s global proposition

Gymshark, the fitness apparel brand, has appointed Danielle Petesic as its new chief product officer (CPO), taking over the role from founder, Ben Francis.

Petesic joins Gymshark after almost four years as Lululemon’s vice president of Product Development, where she was responsible for all product engineering and development of all product categories.

Gymshark said she has always had a “keen eye” for fashion and design, in conjunction with the work behind the scenes. Prior to Lululemon, she led production and product development teams at Mansur Gavriel, Alice & Olivia and Helmut Lang.

She will be responsible for the end-to-end product creation from design to delivery, including product engineering, product marketing, and supply chain strategy for Gymshark’s global proposition. She will oversee a team of over 130 people, a number that is set to “rapidly grow” over the next 12 months.

Petesic has also made the move from Vancouver and will be based at Gymshark HQ in Solihull, United Kingdom.

Founded by Francis in 2012, the company now functions in over 180 countries, has an audience of over 16 million on social media, employs over 700 people and turned over $380m (£269m) in 2020.

In August 2020, it also became just the second British company to achieve “unicorn” status – a valuation of over $1bn (£708m) without previous support from external investors.

Petesic said: “As soon as I began engaging with Ben Francis and Steve Hewitt, I felt like it was meant to be. The emphasis that Gymshark places on ethics and product integrity completely aligns with everything I stand for, and I am committed to carrying this forward.

“Whether it’s the sustainability initiatives around how we bring product to market, the canny use of data to drive strategy, or the dynamic approach on product manufacturing, Gymshark has a very progressive view on the future of the fitness and apparel industry. I feel honoured and privileged to have this opportunity to contribute to the rapid growth and evolution of the Gymshark brand.”

She added: “It’s no secret that Gymshark cares deeply about its community, from those within the walls at GSHQ, to the millions across the globe. I firmly believe the team here have the vision, strength, and power to impact the generations of today and tomorrow. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this brand’s incredible story.”

Steve Hewitt, CEOat Gymshark said: “We couldn’t be more excited about Danielle joining Gymshark to lead our talented, dynamic product function. The chief product officer role at Gymshark is driven by two things; to create an inspiring environment for our team so they can thrive and to ultimately design, build and deliver world class product to our engaged and knowledgeable community.

“When we met Danielle, it was quickly evident that, given her international credentials and experience, she will help elevate Gymshark to the next level as we embark on our next chapter of growth.”
