JD Sports has announced the acquisition of an additional 18% holdings in the shares in sports equipment retailer, Deporvillage SL, for €19.8m (£17.1m).
The sale was conducted by Iberian Sports Retail Group, JD’s Spanish holding company, from Xavier Pladellorens and Àngel Corcuera (co-founders).
Following the transaction, ISRG now owns 98% of Deporvillage. The co-founders retain a 2% interest and will step away from the management of the business following a transition period.
ISRG and the co-founders have also entered into put and call options over their remaining 2% interest in Deporvillage, and the consideration payable for this remaining 2% holding has been capped.
Deporvillage was founded in 2010 and is based in Manresa in Catalonia, Spain. It is an online sports retailer specialising in cycling, running, outdoor, and other sports categories.
JD said the retailer is currently the number one online sports retailer by market share in Spain, and has an established presence in Italy, Portugal and France.
