Superdrug to recruit 1000 seasonal roles

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Superdrug has announced that it is set to recruit 1000 new sales assistants for the festive season, ahead of increased footfall during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.

This year is set to be Superdrug’s biggest festive season to date, fuelled by ongoing investment in its in-store experience. Earlier this year, Superdrug introduced its new Beauty Playground concept in 30 stores nationwide.

The retailer said that while the positions are seasonal, it remained committed to identifying and retaining talent, with many temporary roles historically progressing into permanent positions within the business.

In addition, the company revealed the upcoming arrival of leading Korean beauty brands across selected stores online as well as bolstering its own-brand portfolio with new products.

Amy Davies, people director, said: “As we prepare for our biggest Christmas yet, we’re excited to welcome new colleagues into the Superdrug community. This year we’ve continued to focus on enhancing the in-store experience for our customers, it’s an exceptional time to join our business.

“We’re looking for people who are passionate about customer service and eager to learn. In return, we offer one of the most competitive employment packages and training programmes in retail. Our teams are at the heart of our success, and we take pride in fostering a culture that is inclusive, supportive and driven by shared ambition.”

COO Simon Comins added: “Christmas is always a pivotal and exciting time for Superdrug, and these new roles will enable us to deliver our best festive season yet. Our stores are ready for the season, supported by continued investment in our existing portfolio through the innovative Beauty Playground format and the opening of new stores. We remain committed to delivering exceptional service and an enhanced shopping experience for every customer this Christmas.”
