Asda has revealed that Steph Strike, managing director of George, is stepping down from her position at the group to pursue a new role.

Having joined the supermarket chain on a graduate training scheme in 1995, Strike has since held a number of senior positions at the firm.

Strike was appointed as MD at George 18 months ago, and has overseen a successful transformation programme that has positioned the brand for future growth.

Roger Burnley, CEO and president at Asda, said: “Steph has given exceptional service to Asda over a 25-year period during which she has successfully led a number of different functions whilst mentoring and inspiring many colleagues to fulfil their potential.

“Whilst we are very sorry to see her go, her new opportunity is an excellent one and she leaves with our best wishes.”

The interim period before a successor is appointed will see the George leadership team report directly to Burnley.

While rumours had circulated regarding Asda’s sale of the clothing brand, the group instead highlighted its intentions to retain and invest in the division in late March.

Burnley said at the time that George “continues to be a key part” of the firm’s strategy moving forwards.
