Around 100 jobs are expected to be cut at the head office of Whitbread following the sale of Costa Coffee to Coca Cola for £3.9bn.

According to reports by The Times, a consultation involving around 10% of the company’s head office staff was expected to be concluded this month, however up to 10 people had already left the hospitality group, with none of the executive committee expected to be affected. Alternative jobs are expected to be offered to members of staff affected where possible.

A spokesperson for Whitbread said that it had seen “a small number of people leaving the business”, however added that it “will create around 1,700 new jobs over the next 12 months as we open more than 40 hotels and restaurants across the UK”.

As much as £2.5bn of the sale is being returned to shareholders by the FTSE 100 leisure group.
