Aldi is preparing to open 16 new stores in the coming months, as it continues to expand its UK footprint. The supermarket now operates more than 1,080 stores across the nation, and aims to open 1,500 as part of its long-term growth.
The expansion, which follows the recent opening of Aldi’s new Salford Quays store last month, will contribute to the retailers’ £370m investment plan for new stores in 2026. New sites are set to open across London, Manchester, Essex, Wales, Suffolk, Midlands, Yorkshire and the Isle of Wight.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK.
“Our £370m investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”
The news comes after Aldi announced its plans to upgrade its existing stores earlier this year. Changes will vary by location, but selected stores will benefit from enhanced upgrades and in store-extensions, with a focus on more space to shop in a more sustainable way.
Features will include energy-efficient technology such as fridge doors to reduce energy use, and natural refrigerants to help cut carbon emissions.
Earlier this year, the retailer also invested a further £42m in staff pay, in line with its broader investment plan of providing new jobs and backing communities.
