The Very Group acquired by US firm Carlyle
The transaction marks the end of the Barclay family’s two-decade involvement in the company

The Very Group has confirmed it has been acquired by US-based global investment firm Carlyle, while international media group IMI continues as a key stakeholder.
The company, which operates Very and Littlewoods, said the deal would provide it with a stronger capital base and greater financial flexibility to support its long-term investment plans.
It added the move “underscores Carlyle and IMI’s confidence in The Very Group, its management team, leading brand position, strategy and long-term growth potential, having supported the business since 2021”.

The transaction marks the end of the Barclay family’s two-decade involvement in the company. Under their leadership, The Very Group evolved from a traditional catalogue retailer into one of the UK’s largest online shopping platforms.
Carlyle and IMI have backed the business since 2021. Carlyle said it would work alongside IMI and the group’s leadership to advance strategic priorities, including investing in technology and data to improve customer experience and drive innovation.
