Topshop to return to high streets through wholesale partners

Topshop to return to high streets through wholesale partners

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Asos has signed agreements with a selection of wholesale partners to put Topshop back on the high street, the group has confirmed in its financial results released yesterday (24 April).

While these deals will bring the brand back to brick-and-mortar retailers, Asos is still prioritising the relaunch of a standalone Topshop website in the second half of 2025.

According to Asos boss, José Antonio Ramos Calamonte, the group had spent two years “rebuilding the product assortment of Topshop” before attempting to relaunch the brand.

He confirmed that a standalone topshop.com site will launch in the second half of this fiscal year and stated: “The first step of this comeback is topshop.com”.

Calamonte stated that Topshop’s return to physical retail will involve opening shop-in-shops in select retail locations. Although the group “hasn’t ruled out anything”, Calamonte clarified he is “not talking about a standalone store”.

The recent announcement follows a series of mysterious teasers on Instagram, which hinted at a potential return to stores this summer.

Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge, and HIIT were acquired by Asos for £295m in 2021 as part of an administration deal.

Last year, a joint venture was formed with Bestseller to unlock new growth opportunities. This was achieved by selling a 75% stake in the Topshop and Topman brands to Bestseller.

Calamonte added: “We are listening to our consumers. We understand that they want Topshop to have a level of its own.”

Additional information on Topshop’s high street return is expected soon.
