GOBI Cashmere appoints new CEO

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

GOBI Cashmere has announced the appointment of Amarsaikhan Baatarsaikhan as its new chief executive officer, effective from today (1 March).

Advancing from his previous role as chief growth and strategy office, Baatarsaikhan first joined the Mongolian cashmere retailer in 2019 to spearhead its global brand expansion.

In his new role, Baatarsaikhan aims to focus on revenue improvement and bolstering profit margins for its international markets.

Long-term, he will be responsible for building the brand presence further and distributing Mongolian cashmere worldwide.

Baatarsaikhan said: “Cashmere is Mongolia’s gift to the world. Product, HR, people, and culture are amongst the most important factors for any company; hence employee satisfaction is a highly prioritised area [for me].

“I’m looking forward to taking the next step in this venture and to revealing what we have planned next.”
