The Lancashire-based sportswear retailer, JD Sports, is reportedly close to finalising the appointment of Regis Schults as the company’s new chief executive officer, according to Sky News.

Schults is the former executive at the DIY retailer B&Q, having held “several” senior jobs at B&Q. His credentials also include running Monoprix, the French supermarket chain.

According to Sky, the appointment could be announced within a matter of days.

As JD Sports’ chief executive, Schults will reportedly become the long-term replacement for Peter Cowgill, who stepped down last month amid boardroom disagreements over succession and corporate governance.

His recruitment will form the latest part of JD Sports’ boardroom overhaul, following the recent appointment of Andy Higginson as the company’s chairman.

A JD spokesperson said: “We note the speculation with regards to our ongoing process to recruit a new Group CEO. We reported in our AGM statement on 22 July 2022 that this process was ongoing. That remains the case and we will update the market further when appropriate.”
