Primark has appointed Lucy Slinger as its new chief financial officer, as the company continues to expand internationally.
The announcement comes as the retailer prepares to separate from Associated British Foods (ABF) and operate independently.
Slinger joins Primark from IKEA franchisee, Ingka Group, where she served as deputy CFO. Prior to that, Slinger held various financial leadership roles across Shell company for over two decades, including chief financial officer of its global aviation business.
Slinger’s appointment comes after ABF announced earlier this year that its board of directors have decided to proceed with splitting Primark off from the rest of the food group, leaving Primark a standalone business.
Eoin Tonge, chief executive of Primark, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lucy to Primark at such an important moment for the business.
“She brings deep financial expertise from large global organisations, alongside an impressive track record in disciplined investment and operational performance. As we accelerate our growth strategy and prepare for a standalone future, her leadership will be invaluable. I look forward to working closely with her as we shape the next phase of Primark’s growth.”
Slinger said she was “excited to be joining Primark at such a pivotal point in its journey.”
She added: “Primark is a unique business with a strong growth ambition and distinctive customer proposition, built on making great fashion accessible while continuing to drive quality and sustainability. I look forward to working with Eoin and colleagues across the business as Primark continues to grow internationally and invest for the future.”
