Inditex secures Metrocentre deal for third UK Lefties store

The agreement is the second deal between Metrocentre and Inditex in the first quarter of 2026, and follows recent leasing commitments from Hollister and Bershka

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Fashion retail group Inditex has officially secured a deal with the Metrocentre Partnership to open its third Lefties store in the UK at the Gateshead shopping center later this winter.

The store, which will occupy a central unit at the interchange between the Red and Green Malls on Town Square, will stock collections for women, men, children, and home. News of the deal marks the brand’s debut in the North East.

The agreement is the second deal between Metrocentre and Inditex in the first quarter of 2026, and follows recent leasing commitments from other fashion retailers including Hollister and Bershka.

Sales across the Metrocentre fashion category rose 4.8% in the first quarter compared with the same period in 2025, with womenswear sales increasing 9.2% during the same timeframe.

Lefties was established in 1999 and is headquartered near Barcelona. The brand will join other Inditex labels at the centre, including Zara and Stradivarius, alongside retailers such as Mango and Primark.

Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, said: “We’re proud to confirm that Lefties are the latest exciting new entrant to commit to Metrocentre.

“As one of the first Lefties stores in the UK, this is another major endorsement of Metrocentre as a key location for international brands investing in UK retail. Lefties’ trend-savvy offer will be a compelling addition to our retail mix, and this signing, once again, reflects the dominance and appeal of our scheme to both national and international retailers.”

He added: “With our consistent footfall, extensive catchment, and quality retail offer, we continue to stand out as the leading destination in the region.”
