H&M Group appoints Diego Teijeiro Ruiz as chief information officer

The former Inditex executive will join H&M’s management team from 25 May to lead global technology strategy

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

H&M Group has appointed Diego Teijeiro Ruiz as chief information officer, effective 25 May 2026.

Ruiz joins the retailer from Inditex, where he held several senior leadership roles in technology and data.

He will report to chief executive Daniel Ervér as a member of the executive management team.

His previous experience includes work across product, supply chain, store operations, and sustainability

The appointment is intended to strengthen the company’s technology foundation and improve the omnichannel shopping experience.

Ruiz succeeds Ellen Svanström, who is leaving the business to pursue other opportunities.

H&M said: “Diego Teijeiro Ruiz’s experience will play an important part as we continue to elevate the shopping experience for customers across channels and strengthen our technology foundation throughout the company.”
