Retailer to relocate to 11,000 sq ft space in Red Mall as part of omnichannel expansion

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

New Look will open its largest concept store at Metrocentre, moving into an 11,000 sq ft space to expand its digital and physical retail integration.

The fashion retailer has traded at the Gateshead shopping centre for 20 years. The new “omni-hub” format in the Red Mall follows a similar launch at Bluewater and includes dedicated service hubs and digital browsing displays.

Customers will have access to self-service e-commerce drop-offs, “click and collect” points, and order-in-store showroom areas. The site will stock womenswear, accessories, and the 915 brand.

The relocation is part of a £30m investment into digital growth. The company is using data and artificial intelligence to offer personalised shopping experiences through its loyalty programme, Club New Look, which has one million members.

Sovereign Centros from CBRE, the asset managers for Metrocentre, said the investment demonstrated confidence in the shopping centre. Further concept store openings are planned for later this year.

Retail director at New Look Mark Matthews said: “Opening our largest concept store at Metrocentre is an exciting moment for New Look and a strong signal of how we are evolving the role of our stores. As our digital platform and Club New Look loyalty programme continue to grow, we are creating spaces that bring those capabilities to life for customers in-store.”

Director at Sovereign Centros Ben Cox said: “It’s great to see another long-term occupier investing in a latest concept store at Metrocentre. While securing new brands is a key focus for us, we are equally committed to supporting our existing retailers in elevating their offer.”
