Mango to open new store at Festival Place Basingstoke

Mango to open new store at Festival Place Basingstoke

On this episode of Talking Shop we are joined by Phil James, founder and Creative Director of the contemporary heritage clothing brand &SONS. Phil began his career behind the lens as a commercial advertising photographer, working with global brands to hone a distinct visual language. But in 2016, he decided to step out from behind the camera to build a brand of his own.

Fashion retailer Mango will open a new store at Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke later this year, expanding its UK presence.

The 7,104 sq ft unit will stock the Woman and Man collections and will feature the brand’s “New Med” store design, inspired by Mediterranean textures and materials.

Mango is the first “major tenant” to sign at Festival Place since MDSR Investment acquired the centre in April for £99.1m.

The shopping centre spans 1.2 million sq ft and houses more than 180 retailers, with an annual footfall of over 19 million.

The opening is part of Mango’s 2024–2026 strategic plan, which targets 500 new stores worldwide by 2026, including 20 in the UK in 2025.

At the end of 2024, the brand had more than 80 UK stores alongside its e-commerce sites.

Ross Campbell, director and head of asset management at MDSR, said: “The key focus of our asset management strategy since MDSR’s purchase of Festival Place has been to improve the fashion offering at the centre. Mango’s arrival marks a strong start to this programme.”

Neil Hockin, joint managing director and head of leasing at Lunson Mitchenall, added: “It’s a significant milestone that Mango has chosen Festival Place for its flagship store – its offer aligns with the customer demographic and fills a clear gap in the local market.”
