Matt discussed the biggest challenges facing the retail sector, from cost pressures and wage increases to polarised property markets and geopolitical shocks, and the ways in which retailers can best navigate these. We also explore how short-term cost-cutting could undermine long-term resilience, and how retailers can best remain agile and adaptable in unforecastable times.

British menswear brand Charles Tyrwhitt has opened a new store in Solihull, marking the latest step in its retail expansion strategy.

The new 2,100 sq ft site on Mill Lane, Mell Square, includes 1,500 sq ft of trading space and features a mobile point-of-sale system. The technology allows staff to serve customers across the store, including at shirt displays and quick checkout points, while offering access to the full product range via iPad.

Solihull becomes the brand’s second location in the Midlands, following its Birmingham opening in 2017. More UK store openings are planned in the coming months.

Founded in 1986, Charles Tyrwhitt offers a wide range of men’s clothing including shirts, tailoring, casualwear, shoes and accessories. Its products are sold both online and in store, with a six-month guarantee offered as standard.

Lewis Felix, retail director at Charles Tyrwhitt, said: “Opening new physical retail space is always exciting, as it allows you to build invaluable, lasting relationships with your core customer, becoming a part of the community in the process.

“At Charles Tyrwhitt, we aim to make it easy for men to dress well, and we are very much looking forward to kitting out the people of Solihull, whatever the occasion.”
