John Lewis Partnership to recruit over 10,000 roles

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

The John Lewis Partnership has announced that it is recruiting for more than 10,000 new roles.

Of the new roles, 8,400 of them will be seasonal Christmas roles and 1,700 roles will be non-seasonal roles across Waitrose and John Lewis.

Waitrose will recruit more than 2,800 seasonal roles across its 329 shops, including supermarket assistants, night shift, and customer delivery drivers.

In 34 John Lewis stores there will be over 2,900 temporary roles in sales and merchandising positions.

There will also be 2,700 seasonal roles in supply chain through recruitment agencies that the company works with, including warehouse operatives and drivers.

Lisa Cherry, executive director of people, said: “We’re hugely proud of the way our two brands have become part of the excitement that surrounds Christmas and this is a great opportunity to be at the heart of that at such a special time.

“Our customers are at the forefront of everything we do; we want to deliver a great festive season for them with inspirational products and the very best customer service courtesy of our brilliant partners.”
