Marks and Spencer has appointed the former managing director of Boohoo Group, Mitch Hughes, as director of menswear, Drapers has reported.
Hughes replaces Wes Taylor, who steps down from his role at M&S this month after almost five years as director of menswear and kidswear.
Hughes stepped down from Boohoo Group in October after 18 months as managing director of Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Wallis, which were bought out of administration from Arcadia Group in February 2021.
Prior to this, he was MD at Topshop and Topman between June 2020 and April 2021, and before that was trading director and buying and design director at the retailer.
He initially began his fashion retail career in 1997 as a buyer for M&S.
Taylor joined M&S in 2018 after holding senior roles for River Island, Kangol and Burton.
Following the shuffle, M&S head of menswear buying, Alex Dimitriu, has been promoted to director of kidswear, effective from February.
Hughes said: “I’m hugely excited to be re-joining the business after over 15 years. I have been impressed with the transformation journey Richard, Wes and team have taken the clothing and home business on. Everyone I’ve met has clarity on the strategy and journey ahead.
“There’s so much opportunity in the menswear market and M&S is now well set up to deliver growth across all markets and channels to their customers.”
