Amazon to create 1,500 UK apprenticeships in 2022

Amazon is set to create 1,500 new apprenticeship roles across the UK in 2022.
The online giant will create 40 apprenticeship schemes that include areas such as publishing, retailing, marketing, environmental, social and corporate governance, engineering and health and safety.
The schemes will also include more than 200 apprenticeships which are at degree level.
UK country manager John Boumphrey said the move will “help even more people get the skills that are in demand in today’s labour market”, according to the BBC.
He added: “We want to be the employer that helps people take their careers to the next level, whether you’re just starting your first job or making a career change, in every community that we serve across the UK.”
Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng called the move a “testament to the strength of the British economy, with GDP back at pre-pandemic levels, employee numbers at record highs and unemployment falling”.
He said: “With the vast majority of Amazon’s workforce located outside of London and the South East, these additional 25,000 jobs highlight the success of our Plan for Jobs in helping to ensure greater opportunities across the country.”
Last year, Amazon announced it was holding one of its biggest free virtual training and recruiting events, in a bid to hire 2,500 open corporate, tech and operations roles across the UK.
As part of its recruitment drive, Amazon Career Day took place on 16 September, with an event that was “designed to support all job seekers, whether they are looking for a new job or hoping to transition to a different career altogether”.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in one of the 3,000 free one-to-one career coaching sessions with Amazon recruiters.
Amazon said that jobs were available for “people with all kinds of experience, education, background and skill levels”, from head offices in London and Manchester, tech hubs in Cambridge and Edinburgh, as well as data centres and fulfilment centres across the UK.
