Asda announces new measures amid Covid-19 outbreak

Supermarket Asda has outlined a wide ranging package of measures to help support its colleagues and other workers whose jobs have been impacted by coronavirus.
Acknowledging the “incredible efforts’”of Asda’s hourly paid retail and distribution colleagues, CEO Roger Burnley confirmed to colleagues that they will receive full pay if they need to isolate due to coronavirus.
Where colleagues have been identified as being part of a vulnerable group and need to self-isolate, they will receive full pay for the full 12 weeks to protect their health.
Burnley said: “I could not be any more grateful for the efforts each and every one of my colleagues is going to right now to support and serve the people of the UK – and the last thing I want any of them worrying about is being paid if they need to self-isolate as a result of coronavirus.”
The ‘Big Four’ grocer also revealed it has started working with a number of national companies to offer temporary roles to people.
The news comes after Aldi announced that all store and distribution employees will receive a 10% bonus on their hours worked, effective from 9 March 2020.
The bonus is the retailer’s tribute to its “amazing colleagues” who have “worked tirelessly throughout this extremely busy time”.
The supermarket giant has also announced a new set of dedicated shopping times for emergency workers, as well as increased support for small suppliers.
