Morrisons appoints former Aldi exec as logistics director

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Morrisons has appointed former Aldi UK regional logistics director, Andy Gillies, to lead its logistics operations as director, the retailer revealed on LinkedIn

Gillies brings more than 30 years of experience in retail and logistics, having most recently served as group logistics director at food manufacturer Greencore from 2022 to 2025. He previously led its director-to-store business unit.

He spent 17 years at Aldi UK, where he was responsible for warehouse and distribution operations in the Midlands.

Posting on LinkedIn, Morrisons said Gillies brought “a wealth of experience from over 30 years in retail and logistics” to the role.

Gillies added: “I’m really pleased to join such an iconic British retailer.

“Grocery is a tough and competitive sector, and with my team, my responsibility will be to deliver great service and availability to our stores, while finding operational efficiencies to reduce cost. I can’t wait to get started!”

His appointment follows the departure of Morrisons head of property David Scott in July, after eight years in the role. The supermarket had announced it was reviewing resourcing for its property team at its Bradford head office.
