Waitrose is reportedly in talks with Amazon to consider selling groceries on the platform in a bid to regain market share lost to other discount retailers, The Telegraph has revealed.
The pair are reportedly considering a new third-party deal, three years after Waitrose severed ties with Ocado.
Recently, Amazon struck a similar deal with Iceland, trialling thousands of products on a same-day delivery service for Prime subscribers in Manchester.
The recent news comes as Waitrose’s market share in the grocery industry dipped from 5.1% to 4.6% since 2020, according to industry data from Kantar.
In 2021, the supermarket signed a deal with Deliveroo for rapid home deliveries during the pandemic. More recently in July, Waitrose struck another partnership with Uber Eats.
Lately, Amazon has tried to expand its offering through the launch of its ‘fresh’ store model which already has supermarkets Co-op and Morrisons on board.
Amazon declined to comment. Waitrose has been contacted for comment.
