Lyle & Scott to open its first London store

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Menswear brand Lyle & Scott has announced it is to open its first store in the UK, located at Wembley Park’s London Designer Outlet.

The heritage label will occupy more than 800 sq ft in the fashion and lifestyle outlet centre, which will be the fashion retailer’s only outlet store to open in 2021 in the UK.

Lyle and Scott, which was founded nearly 150 years ago, originally specialised in designing and retailing Scottish knitwear. Since then it has been exclusively granted a Royal Warrant and has gone on to develop sporting and music heritage wear.

Philip Oldham, CEO of Lyle and Scott, said: “Many of our loyal customers have favourite items of our clothing linked to treasured memories. Opening at London Designer Outlet, itself a destination that is about the sensory experience of retail, gives us an incredibly exciting opportunity to meet more of our customers and create more memories.

“We’re greatly looking forward to opening our new store, welcoming guests so they can experience the Lyle and Scott brand for the first time in the capital in a safe, enjoyable environment.”

London Designer Outlet is managed by outlet operator Realm.

Christine Grace, leasing director at Realm, said: “Lyle and Scott is the latest brand to join our community of brands and will be a very welcome treat for our fashion-savvy guests as they look for the highest quality clothing at outlet prices.”
