JD Sports chairman Peter Cowgill is set to receive a £6m bonus following his “exceptional performance” at the sportswear retailer.
The retailer’s remuneration committee recommended the payment due to the fact that Cowgill has not received any awards under the company’s incentive plans. The committee also found that Cowgill has been executive chairman since 2004 and has not received pensions contributions since 2013.
A spokesperson for JD Sports remuneration committee, said: “The payment is being recommended in part to compensate the executive chairman for this and in part to recognise the exceptional performance.”
Cowgill will not receive any additional bonuses.
