Moss Bros appoints former Missguided boss

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Gareth Jones, former online chief executive of Missguided, has joined menswear retailer Moss Bros as a non-executive director.

Jones left his role at Missguided after eight months in May last year having joined the online fashion store from his post as deputy chief executive at Shop Direct in December 2016.

His role on the board as a non-executive director will be effective from 14 January. In May, he will take over as the chairman of the company’s remuneration committee when its current chairman Zoe Morgan retires after six years in the position.

Debbie Hewitt, chairman of Moss Bros, said: “I am pleased to welcome Gareth to the company. As well as his strong digital and online experience, he brings broad strategic, brand and commercial skills, along with international consumer insight. I am sure that he will add considerable value to our board and we look forward to working with him.

“On behalf of the whole board, I would like to thank Zoe for the outstanding contribution that she has made and continues to make to our business. She has played an important role in the repositioning of the Moss Bros brand, she contributes significantly to all of our board debates and she has led the remuneration committee with the utmost professionalism.”

She added: “We are appreciative of her support in ensuring that the execution of our board and committee succession planning is done in a well-orchestrated manner, giving us plenty of time to secure and induct her successor. We wish her well for her retirement.”
