Sital Nakarja joins the retailer to modernise planning platforms across fashion, home and beauty departments

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Marks and Spencer has appointed Sital Nakarja to lead a large-scale transformation of its merchandising planning programme.

Nakarja joins the retailer to oversee the modernisation of planning platforms across its fashion, home and beauty divisions.

The move aims to strengthen data-led decision making within the business. Nakarja will be responsible for shaping the future of the company’s retail buying and merchandising operations as part of the wider digitisation strategy.

The appointment comes as the retailer continues to update its legacy systems to improve supply chain efficiency. Nakarja previously held senior roles within the retail sector before joining the FTSE 100 company.

Commenting on her appointment in a Linkedin post, Nakarja said: “The opportunity to join an iconic brand like M&S, helping to modernise planning, strengthen data-led decision making and to help shape the future of retail buying and merchandising operations, was one I felt I couldn’t pass up.

“The M&S team have been great in the last few weeks and I’m excited for what’s to come!”
