Stradivarius opens first North East flagship store

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Spanish fashion retailer Stradivarius has opened its first store in the North East at Metrocentre in Gateshead.

The new branch, located in the Lower Red Mall next to Zara, stocks seasonal collections, denim ranges and accessories.

This marks the regional debut for the Spanish fashion label, part of the Inditex group, which also owns Zara and Pull and Bear.

Stradivarius joins a line-up of new arrivals, with Urban Outfitters and Danish homeware retailer Søstrene Grene due to open later this year.

Gavin Prior, centre director at Metrocentre, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Stradivarius to Metrocentre. There’s been so much anticipation around the launch of the store and it’s fantastic to finally see the doors open and shoppers exploring the brand’s unique offering.”

Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, asset managers of Metrocentre, added: “Stradivarius is a great addition to Red Mall, enhancing the line-up by providing a complementary, point of difference to the existing fashion offer.

“That Metrocentre is the only place in the region where you can now find fashion powerhouses Zara and Stradivarius is an indication of the destination’s importance to the north east retail landscape; somewhere that creates unique day-out experiences and an unparalleled tenant mix.”
