Chairman of Eve Sleep to step down

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Paul Pindar, the chairman of Eve Sleep, has announced his decision to step down from the role.

Pindar, who has held the position as chair for five years, will be replaced by Mike Lloyd, the group’s current chief operating officer (COO).

Lloyd has held executive director roles at leading consumer businesses for the last seven years. He began his career as a strategy consultant and was a partner at Oliver Wyman where he “led their consumer service work in the UK”.

At the moment, Lloyd is also COO of retirement home developer McCarthy and Stone, which has just been taken private and was previously a FTSE 250 Plc. He will take up his role on 26 May 2021.

Earlier this month, Eve Sleep, which operates solely online also reported a revenue increase of 6%, from £23.9m in 2019 to £25.2m in 2020 – with the group announcing plans to “accelerate” its business.

Cheryl Calverley, CEO of Eve Sleep, said: “Working with Paul as our chairman over the last year has been unexpectedly delightful, and I could not be more grateful for his care, support and guidance as we’ve navigated our rebuild strategy.

“He will remain a close friend of eve and personal mentor. Mike will bring a different energy to the role, challenging and stretching the eve business to accelerate for growth.”

She added: “He’s a remarkable character, and is the perfect fit to help Eve take advantage of what lies ahead. I’m personally both excited, and slightly awed by the opportunity that having Mike as chairman places in front of us.”
