On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Boots has appointed Adam Zavalis as director of brand and communications, and will join the business on 25 February 2019.

Zavalis has been the UK marketing director for Aldi since 2013, where he has was “integral” to the development of its marketing strategy, as well helping to develop “award winning campaigns” which contributed to the company becoming the fifth biggest grocer in the UK.

Zavalis will report to Helen Normoyle, marketing director of the UK and Republic of Ireland. Normoyle said: “I’m delighted to welcome Adam to Boots. He brings a lot of valuable experience to the role, and as we celebrate the 170th year of Boots this year I, and my colleagues, look forward to working with him to take this amazing brand into the future.”
