Former BHS owner Dominic Chappell has been ordered to pay a total of £87,170 in fines and court fees after he was found guilty of failing to provide pensions information to The Pensions Regulator (TPR).

In January, the one-time BHS owner was found guilty of failing to provide information about the company’s pension scheme after it went into administration in 2016.

Chappell appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today (23 February) and was sentenced to pay a fine of £50,000, court fees of £37,000 and a £170 victim surcharge.

Judge Lucie said: “The court must send a message to those in senior positions that refusal to answer questions under Section 72 will not be tolerated. The law is there for a purpose and it must be enforced. There is a complete lack of remorse on Mr Chappell’s part.”
