H&M and Kering are the only fashion retailers to be named in an annual ranking of the world’s most sustainable corporations.

The Corporate Knights’ Global 100 index, which was announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, named H&M as the most sustainable speciality retail company.

Meanwhile Kering was listed as the most sustainable textile, apparel and luxury goods corporation.

The Global 100 index is taken by measuring corporations against an overall average that factors in various elements of environmental sustainability, working conditions and leadership diversity.

H&M has also been recently ranked By Sigwatch as the number-one company praised by activist.

On the company website regarding their sustainability achievements H&M said: “We are proud to see that H&M group’s ambitious sustainability strategy to lead the change towards circular and renewable fashion while being a fair and equal company has been well received.”

Marie-Claire Daveu, chief sustainability officer and head of international institutional affairs at Kering, said: “A criterion in all business decisions, traversing all departments and areas of our supply chain, we consider sustainability to be the Kering seal of savoir-faire.

“Inclusion in Corporate Knights’ 2018 Global 100, as the most sustainable corporation in the textile, apparel and luxury sector, is thus truly an honour for Kering, and a source of motivation to continue our pursuit of a more sustainable luxury.”
