Boots recalls bobby pins found to contain real fur

Boots has recalled a line of bobby pins from the hair accessory brand Scunci, after they were found to be made with real fur.

The true material of the pins – which were marketed being ‘fur style’ – was discovered by anti-fur campaigner Ruby Miranda, who posted images of the bobby pins on a vegan Facebook group. She said she believed the fur was from a cat or rabbit.

Miranda posted on the page: “I am able to spot the difference between real fur and faux fur instantaneously, it’s become quite a habit actually.

“I came across this image in a Vegan [sic] group and I knew straight away that this was real fur. I can tell by the way the fur tapers at the end. Faux fur does not do that, faux fur has blunt ends.”

Boots later confirmed to The Sun that the product did contain animal fur.

A Boots spokeswoman said: “At Boots UK we have clear animal welfare standards that we take very seriously. We confidently stocked this product from the supplier on the understanding that these are faux fur. Boots has said it’s investigating the pins.

“We take any customer concern seriously and, having received this enquiry, as a precautionary measure only, we have temporarily removed the product from sale whilst the supplier undertakes a thorough investigation.”
