Frasers Group has appointed Sir Jon Thompson as its new chair, succeeding David Daly, who will step down at the company’s annual general meeting on 24 September after eight years on the board.

Thompson joined the retailer as a non-executive director in June 2024. A former chief executive of the Financial Reporting Council and HMRC, he brings extensive experience in corporate governance and major project management.

The group also expects to appoint Andy Lyon, a former PwC partner specialising in retail and consumer markets, as a non-executive director. A further appointment is anticipated in the coming weeks.

Lyon spent 24 years as a partner at PwC, where he led audits for a number of major retailers including Next’s credit business.

He also served as senior partner for the firm’s East Midlands office and sat on PwC’s retail and consumer leadership team.

Michael Murray, chief executive, said: “I would like to thank David for his outstanding leadership, guidance, and the wealth of expertise he brought to the board, which has been instrumental in helping us deliver on our Elevation Strategy.

“I’m equally delighted to announce our proposed new appointment to the board with Andy, as well as Jon’s confirmed appointment to chair, as we enter the next phase of our strategy.”

Thompson added: “I am very much looking forward to working alongside board colleagues, the group executive team and the wider company to continue Frasers Group’s evolution. I would like to acknowledge David’s significant contribution over the last eight years and thank him for his expert leadership.”
