On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

Gardiner Bros has acquired British footwear brand Base London in a move that brings together two longstanding names in UK footwear retail.

The deal marks Base London’s 30th anniversary and is the first brand acquisition by Gardiner Bros, a wholesale footwear specialist with a history spanning multiple generations

Base London was founded in 1995 and is known for its design-led menswear shoes and boots

The Spring/Summer 2026 collection will be the first released under the new ownership.

Gardiner Bros distributes footwear for a range of brands across the UK and has stated the acquisition aligns with its plans to grow through long-term brand development and market expansion.

Ben Gardiner, director at Gardiner Bros, said: “We are thrilled to be entering this exciting partnership with Base London. We have worked with and supported the brand and the team for many years and are committed to maintaining the brand’s legacy of quality, trend and innovation while expanding its visibility, reach and impact within the UK and beyond.

“Our experienced national sales team, coupled with the existing Base London brand and marketing team will drive the brand via a considered bricks and digital multi-channel approach. We see a very exciting future for Base London.”

Dave Conibere, founder of Base London, added: “After three decades of building Base London, it’s a momentous occasion to pass the baton to Gardiner Bros. Their passion for footwear and their vision for Base London aligns seamlessly with ours.

“It’s comforting to know that the brand is in the hands of a company that is not only eager but also fully equipped to see it flourish.”
