Card Factory has opened its 1,100th high street store in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, as the greetings card and gift retailer expands its national footprint.
The new outlet, based at Brookfield Retail Park, welcomed its first customers on 31 July and has created 12 local jobs.
Regional manager Maureen Wheele led the opening alongside chief executive Darcy Willson-Rymer and executive director of retail Steve Lilley.
Lilley said: “As a celebrations-focused business, we are thrilled to have officially hit the milestone of opening 1,100 stores across the UK and Ireland. This is a testament to our committed teams who help bring our new stores to life and focus on helping our customers celebrate life’s moments.
“The opening of our Cheshunt store represents the continued success and growth of our store estate, and we’re looking forward to welcoming customers to our new store.”
It comes after the company agreed to acquire online personalised greeting cards group Funky Pigeon from WH Smith for £24m.
Once the deal is complete, Card Factory will be the second largest online card and attached gift retailer in the UK market, according to the group.
Funky Pigeon’s technology platform will become the core digital platform for its UK and Ireland business.
The acquired platform, which operates funkypigeon.com, generated on average around £32m in full-year revenues and around £5m EBITDA over the last two financial years.
Card Factory said the acquisition will boost its existing digital strategy, providing a platform for its online growth, particularly in the direct-to-recipient card and attached gifting market.
