Luxury watch retailer Watches of Switzerland is reportedly set to close 16 showrooms across the UK, putting 40 jobs at risk, according to the BBC.
Watches of Switzerland told the outlet that affected staff from its 709-strong team will be redeployed where feasible, adding that its “priority [was] to support all affected colleagues”.
The company has yet to confirm which showrooms will close.
Watches of Switzerland Group told the BBC: “We continually assess our operations to remain as efficient and productive as possible.
“Whilst we intend to continue growing our showroom estate organically and by acquisition, following a recent review, we have regrettably made the difficult decision to close 16 showrooms in the UK.”
The group added: “We have also reviewed our support services to ensure we are operating in the most efficient and productive way to power our retail growth and are regrettably proposing that circa 40 roles will be at risk of redundancy.”
The news comes as the group opened its largest Rolex boutique in London at the beginning of March 2025.
According to its most recent financial results, the group stated that it remains on track to hit its FY25 targets, as its Q3 performance was in line with its expectations, with “good trading” in the UK and US during the holiday period.
For the 13 weeks to 26 January 2025, Watches of Switzerland reported further stabilisation of the UK market in both luxury watches and jewellery, while the US market has seen continued momentum.
Watches of Switzerland has been contacted for comment.
