Ocado Retail has announced that it is slashing prices under its Big Price Drop scheme.

Posting on LinkedIn, the group said: “From today, 450 more products on site will be reduced in price, decreasing by an average of 17%. It’s one of the many ways we’re continuing to offer reassuringly good value for our customers.”

The news comes after the online grocer slashed prices on more than 1,700 products under its Big Price Drop, with an average reduction of 5% across the range at the start of the year.

In an interview with the Sunday Times last month, chief executive officer Hannah Gibson explained that the group is trying to break away from its reputation as the “posh” supermarket as it is “perceived as expensive”. The group wants to become “much more accessible”.

She added: “We needed to address our prices. We did need to bring them down and we have done that over the last 18 months.”
