Matalan adds 10 new third-party brands

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Matalan has announced the addition of 10 new third-party brands launching exclusively online.

The new brands are Quiz, Pink Vanilla, Blue Vanilla, Roman, Yumi, Mela London, Where’s that From, Izabel, Brand Threads and Toe Zone.

These new brands will sit alongside existing brands such as Little Mistress, JDY, In The Style, Craghoppers, Trespass and Rocket Dog.

All these third party brands will supplement Matalan’s offering of its own brands; Papaya, Et Vous, Easy, Taylor & Wright, US Athletic, Lincoln and Souluxe.

The company is now looking to build on its homeware offerings and will be extending choice in its nursery and baby, seasonal and outdoor and gifting ranges.

Ben Smith, chief trading officer, said: “We’re so excited to be adding more fantastic brands to our portfolio, brands we know our customers will love to shop. We’re committed to offering our customers a dynamic online experience, and by giving them more choice across our product ranges we know they’ll continue to trust Matalan as their one stop shop as well as remaining a leading online retail destination for families across the UK.

“We have been working hard to understand what the customer wants, and in Spring 2024 will be offering more choices in key areas such as holiday shops, occasion wear and outerwear – watch this space!”
