Frasers Group opens multi-fascia store at Gateshead Metrocentre

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Frasers Group has opened the doors to Sports Direct’s brand new 50,000 sq.ft multi-fascia store in Metrocentre, Gateshead including USC, Evans Cycles, and Game.

Sports Direct’s new store offers specialist sporting areas for running, football, and outdoor, across men’s, women’s and kidswear, and brings Sports Direct’s Running Concept to customers. First launched in Sports Direct’s Manchester flagship store, the concept aims to provide “the ultimate tools to help customers find the right product for their running journey”.

The Sports Direct Metrocentre offers several brands under one roof including:
● USC: a dedicated area set out for customers to explore and shop lifestyle brands in one space – from authentic branded denim and urban fashion to accessories and footwear.
● Game: the games retailer offering the latest games, consoles, and accessories.
● Evans Cycles: a new space, offering market-leading selection of bikes, parts, accessories, and clothing

Accessible through Sports Direct, Frasers has also opened its 10th elevated and largest hybrid Everlast Gyms to date. Everlast Gyms Metrocentre offers a full-round workout experience across 37,000 sq. ft of space, and with an expansive portfolio of weight, cardio, resistance and functional equipment.

Ger Wright, managing director Sport at Frasers Group, said: “We are bringing the ultimate fitness destinations to Metrocentre with the opening of Sports Direct and our Everlast Gyms flagship. These openings demonstrate our dedication to expanding and investing into our store portfolio, as we bring the best sports and leisure brands, environments and experiences to key retail destinations across the UK and internationally.

“As the leading destination for sportswear in the UK, and with the support from our major global brand partners, we continue to expand our retail portfolio on our journey to becoming the number one sports retailer in EMEA.”
