On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Leicester-based Just Hype, a global fashion and accessories brand, has announced the appointment of two new executives to further strengthen its management team.

Dave Leigh has been appointed as the new Commercial director, while Melissa Wright has been appointed as the new head of Buying.

Leigh brings a wealth of experience to Just Hype, having held senior commercial roles at a number of sports / fashion brands including Nike and Umbro. Most recently, Leigh served as the Strategic and Key account sales manager at VF Corporation, where he was responsible for leading the team, the distribution strategy and the commercial activities in the UK and Ireland for The North Face.

In this role, he will be responsible for leading the company’s commercial efforts, including sales strategies, key account management, and business development.

Wright, on the other hand, will lead the company’s buying function, focusing on trend research, development, and supply chain management.

Just Hype said Wright’s “extensive experience” in buying and merchandising at renowned companies such as Super Dry, Joules and Next will undoubtedly strengthen Just Hype’s in-house buying capabilities and enable the brand to offer a wider range of products to customers.

Mike Thompson, the COO for Just Hype, said: “I am excited to welcome Dave and Melissa to the Just Hype team. Their unique skills and wealth of experience in the industry will be invaluable to our business as we continue to expand our reach and offer a diverse and exciting range of products to our customers worldwide.”

Just Hype was acquired in pre-pack by Birmingham-based investor Sarjan Dulai and his team in April of this year.
