Asos head of commercial change steps down

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Asos head of commercial change and operations, Anthony Benham, has left the online retailer after 16 years.

Benham started working for Asos in 2006 as a senior menswear merchandiser.

In 2012, he was promoted to retail project manager, and in 2016, he was made a senior business change partner. He was later promoted to head of commercial change and operations in 2021.

Benham began his career in the retail industry in 1998 and since then has worked at John Lewis, Miss Selfridge and Debenhams in merchandising roles.

In a post on LinkedIn, Benham said: “The word journey is often used but for me, it definitely applies to my time at ASOS. Both professionally and personally, I have dealt with an enormous amount of change.ASOS grew from a £50m business to the multi billion pound company it is today and I loved every minute of it.

“It was extremely challenging at times but unbelievably rewarding. I want to take this opportunity to thank every single person I worked with over the years, for supporting me and making my ASOS experience so enjoyable. As much as I will miss everyone at ASOS, I am really excited to see what opportunities are out there for the next step of my career.”
