On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

Holland and Barrett has announced the appointment of April Preston as its new Global Product director.

With more than 30 years’ experience across retail, manufacturing and restaurant industries, it said Preston joins Holland and Barrett as it continues to transform its product and services offering.

Preston joins Holland and Barrett from Marks and Spencer where she spent the past three years as product director, leading the transformation of the retailer’s food range. Previously she held positions at Harrods, 2SFG and Conran Group.

Preston said: “Once in a blue moon, if you’re lucky, the perfect job comes along. This role ticked so many boxes for me as it allows me to work on a global scale, play a part in a company’s transformation and help our customers to improve their health and wellness through delicious food and a more holistic personal approach, which is something I care deeply about.

“I am so excited to get stuck into my new role at Holland and Barrett and work to create ranges and products that ensure we become the world’s leading retailer of great quality, delicious and nutritious food, and natural beauty.”

Alex Dower, chief commercial officer, Holland and Barrett, said: “I am delighted to have April onboard, this is a real coup for Holland & Barrett as we believe somebody of April’s extensive experience will prove pivotal in enhancing our transformation strategy; a vision of helping 100m customers globally achieve their health and wellness goals.”
