On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Watches of Switzerland has announced the appointment of William Floydd as its newest CFO.

He will succeed Anders Romberg who recently informed the board of his intention to retire after seven years in the role.

Floydd will join the company from The Rank Group where he has held the role of CFO since November 2018.

At Rank, he made contributions to its transformation and in the last 18 months has led several financing initiatives to ensure Rank has been able to weather the pandemic.

Prior to this, he spent 12 years in a variety of leadership positions at Logica Plc. He is also a chartered accountant, having qualified with PwC.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the Watches of Switzerland Group at such an exciting phase of its growth, and look forward to working closely with Brian, the board and the wider team in continuing to deliver on the group’s strategy.”

Brian Duffy, CEO, added: “I am delighted to welcome Bill as our incoming CFO and look forward to working with him when he joins us. He brings a wealth of senior financial expertise and leadership qualities, and the group will benefit greatly from his experience.”
