B&Q reinforces commitment to kitchen and bathrooms market

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Home improvement retailer B&Q has begun to recruit 800 new colleagues in its bid to further commitment to the kitchens and bathrooms market.

The new recruitments will be based at the retailer’s showroom areas to assist customers.

The news comes after B&Q recently announced proposals to simplify the way it sells kitchens and bathrooms, moving away from offering installation services to reflect customer preference and continuing to focus on selection, design and ordering of new kitchens and bathrooms, for delivery and takeaway.

Due to the recruitment phase, customers will only have to deal with one person in store, aiming to make the process simpler and speed up the experience. The retailer has proposed that the whole process from booking a design appointment to home delivery will be done in less time.

Paul White, trading director of B&Q, said: “As one of the UK’s leading kitchen and bathroom retailer, B&Q is committed to the growth and development of the category. We are confident these improvements lay firm foundations to drive our showrooms business forward, and create a solid platform from which to continue evolving our market leading kitchen proposition.

“With the addition of 800 new colleagues, customers will experience an even better service, dealing with just one member of staff who will make it simpler for them to buy a kitchen or bathroom and create an even better shopping experience.”
