Co-op to open trio of stores in Worcester

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

The Co-op is set to open three new food stores in the Worcester area following a £2.25m investment.

A store in Station Road, Honeybourne, opened today and includes an in-store bakery and a focus on fresh, healthy foods and meal ideas. Another store in Barker Street, Worcester opened on 22 March, and was designed as a local hub and an asset for the local community.

Finally, on 6 April 2018, a store in Pershore’s Racecourse Road will reopen, following a £1.1m makeover to transform the store for the community.

Jon Bottomley, area manager for the Co-op’s convenience stores, said: “We have had a great response, and are delighted to have had the opportunity to carry out such a significant investment in and around Worcester – colleagues are really looking forward to welcoming members and customers into their new Co-op stores.

“We are proud to be part of the community, and our ambition is to ensure that all of our stores become a local hub, a real asset for the local community.”
