Jollyes reports 10.4% sales growth amid strong December trading

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Jollyes has reported total sales growth of 10.4% and like-for-like growth of 6% for the trading period between 1 and 24 December 2025, as consumers balanced rising household costs with seasonal spending on animals.

The company attributed the performance to a strategy of maintaining low prices on high-volume items. This follows significant increases in food and veterinary bills throughout the year, which have impacted household budgets across the UK.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show veterinary costs at the end of 2025 were almost 50% higher than in 2020. The RSPCA also reported that pet abandonment and neglect cases reached a five-year high last year due to economic pressures.

In response to rising costs, Jollyes customers donated 424,000 tins of dog and cat food to more than 150 charities and food banks. The business also donated £40,000 to five animal welfare and community organisations.

The retailer confirmed plans to open stores in four new locations during the coming weeks. New sites include Blackpool on 24 January, Ponders End on 6 February, Hartlepool on 14 February and Whitehaven on 27 February.

The expansion follows seven store launches in the final weeks of 2025. Each new location is expected to create eight jobs. Jollyes has almost doubled its store count over the past three years.

Chief executive officer-designate Adam Dury said: “We know how much pets are part of the family and how, even in tough economic times, their owners want quality, care and something special at Christmas for their pets.

“In 2026, we’ll continue to make high-quality pet care accessible to all, investing in both range development alongside our commitment to low prices, as we deliver great value every day.”
